Everybody loves trees and green space. Have you ever been to Chicago? Walk down the main street, Michigan Avenue, and see how the third largest city in America turns hectic urban street scenes into oases of peace and reflection. We can do that in Plattsburgh. Global warming will undoubtedly be the biggest challenge we face in this century. The future of our planet will depend on how we respond to this crisis. Let's make Plattsburgh a model for Global Cooling. A few simple steps will start us on the way. Read more about the global warming challenge at http://www.fightglobalwarming.com.
A bleak winter street in Ward 2 – but notice the four majestic evergreens that brighten the landscape. We need more of these! |
- Clean up eyesores and blighted areas – make our city safe and attractive
- Install green space – everywhere we do it, people will like it
- Plant trees and landscape public areas – one new tree per person in five years
- Build a bike path to the new airport – this will show newcomers and visitors how much we care about the environment
- Give residents incentives to drive fuel-efficient, non-polluting cars
- Turn ourselves into an asthma-free city – asthma is this century's tuberculosis, and we can become a center for cure
- Promote global cooling – become America's first Global Cooling Zone
