I am a fiscal conservative, and I am extremely interested in the income or revenue side of our balance sheet

Mike Kelly, Democratic Councilor for Ward 2, City of Plattsburgh, NY

Cutting expenses can only help the city. No one can argue with that. Mayor Kazprzak, in his first year, has discovered some amazing opportunities to cut expenses and improve efficiency in city operations.

However, a boss of mine once said that it is possible to cut yourself right out of business. Slashing expenses without an eye for revenue is penny-wise and pound-foolish.

We must have a source of revenue besides property taxes. We need jobs and companies with deep pockets that pay taxes. The only way to attract those kinds of revenue are to create a city that is incredibly forward-thinking and livable.

Plattsburgh City workers, like workers everywhere, deserve a living wage and benefits to support themselves and their families. We must not lose sight of this goal in the hustle to save dollars.

As always, I believe that the best ideas for Plattsburgh are waiting to be discovered. They're your ideas.
